PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Suburban Terrace Civic Association September 2025 President’s Report

Hello neighbors!

Fall is in the air – well, almost! Cooler weather should be right around the corner. Let’s keep our eye on the tropics. Things have been slow, and we would like it to stay that way!

July 8, 2025, Meeting Recap

JPSO

Again, not much to report. We were reminded to call 911 if we see any suspicious activity in our neighborhood. There is no “non-emergency” number to call. Call 911 and tell the operator that you do not have an emergency but would like to report suspicious activity. The operator will ask you several questionsthat will give the responding officer the information needed for the call. You will then be asked if you’d like to speak to the officer. You can answer yes or no. No one will ever know that you called. It is completely up to you if you would like the officer to speak to you after the matter is addressed. Please help us help Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office help us. They can’t be everywhere and see everything. We need to help where we can.

Car break ins in our neighborhood have decreased. JPSO believes that this is due to citizen awareness. We are all more diligent and we are remembering to lock our cars. Let’s keep it up!

The topic of motorized vehicles on the streets of our neighborhood was also discussed. There are several different classes of motorized vehicles. If you see anyone operating a motorized vehicle in an unsafe manner, please call 911 to report.

The Jefferson Parish Sherrif’s Office is the 17th largest Sherrif’s department in the country.

The use of body cameras by JPSO has decreased lawsuitsagainst the department by 30%.

Mr. Charlie Fontenelle – Board Member, Fortified Roof Program Committee

Mr. Fontenelle gave us excellent information on the Fortified Roof Program. He gave us some great information. All information presented can be found on the Louisiana Department Insurance website. Please visit the website for details: https://ldi.la.gov/fortifyhomes

The website states:

The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program Lottery Registration Period is Open and Will Close Friday, September 12, at 5pm.

Neighborhood News

STCA Board Member Suzanne Falgout has made some progresswith the project to improve the sidewalks along Jefferson Highway. This is a huge undertaking, and Suzanne has been chipping away at it! She continues to communicate with Angela DeSoto, JP Director of Engineering. The latest update is that the draft of the CEA (Cooperative Endeavor Agreement) between departments needed to move any project forward is awaiting approval. Once this happens, progress will hopefully move quickly.

STCA Beautification director Chappie Eppling is working with Brian Parks to identify appropriate areas where trees can be planted. He is also working on a lighting project for the medianon Jefferson Park Ave. If you have ideas on how to “beautify” our neighborhood with planting, trees, etc., please let Chappie know!
