Suburban Terrace Civic Association November 2025 President’s Report
Hello neighbors!
Well, we had a quick touch of winter, now we’re back to some unseasonably hot weather. At least it gets a bit cooler at night. Let’s take this opportunity to winterize our homes and get our heating systems checked. We can prepare for the winter weather with our shorts and sandals on!
One bright spot concerning our weather is that we only have a few more weeks left in the 2025hurricane season. Let us all be thankful that we did not experience any events this year.
September 9, 2025, Meeting Recap
Jefferson Parish Sherrif’s Office (JPSO)
Crime continues to remain low in our area.
Help our deputies help us. Report any suspicious activity to the JPSO and let them investigate.
There is no “non-emergency” number. If you notice suspicious activity and it is not an emergency, let the operator know that when they answer. You will be asked if you’d like to speak to the deputy who will come out to investigate. You can answer yes or no. JPSO can’t be everywhere. Let’s help them by watching out for our neighborhood.
Senator Kirk Talbot, Insurance Chair, Louisiana Senate
Senator Talbot spoke about all aspects of property insurance in our state. He spoke about the fortified roof program. He spoke about the need to get 20% of the roofs in the South fortified forus to lower our insurance premiums. He also spoke about the availability of tax deductions for those who installed fortified roofs without a grant. In addition, he spoke about his on-going efforts to enact positive legislation that will lead to the reduction of our insurance costs. Senator Talbot had some excellent information to present, and we thank him for his time.
Canseco’s
We are all excited about the opening of Canseco’s in our neighborhood! It is a great addition. Mr. Sinesio Canseco was scheduled to speak but had another meeting to attend. His son and daughterattended our meeting and spoke about their plans for the store. They opened ahead of schedule on October1, and we couldn’t be happier. Welcome Canseco’s!!
Neighborhood News –
In case you haven’t noticed, electrical service has been added to the median on Jefferson ParkAvenue. This can only mean that lights will be added soon! Our trees on the median are flourishing and they, along with our welcome sign, will be illuminated soon. Thanks to Chappie Eppling for working with Brian Parks from the Jefferson Parish Parks Department to make this happen!
Night Out Against Crime
What a wonderful night we had for our Night Out Against Crime event on October 7, 2025. We had many neighbors and friends as well as our Parish leaders, JPSO deputies and our JPFD fire fighters who stopped by for a visit. The weather was beautiful, and a good time was had by all. In case you missed the event this year, we look forward to seeing you next year!
THE LABELLA MOTEL
Yes, it is in all capital letters for a reason! We can wave goodbye!!!!! The sale of the property has been completed. Chris and Ashley Genard, owners of the Redamo Suites situated next door, are now the new owners. Chris and Ashley have done and beautiful job of renovating the Redamo Suites and they have assured us that they will do the same with the Labella Motel. Chris and Ashley have been wonderful friends to our community. They have been respectful of our neighborhood, have kept the STCA Board updated on their plans and have asked for input to ensure that they build something that our neighborhood can be proud of. Many thanks to both of you!
