June-July 2017 President’s Report

We would like to thank Director Mitch Theriot and his staff with Jefferson Parish Drainage Department for the excellent presentation. The visual footage presented on screen helped to connect all the dots. I think now I finally understand the complexity of our drainage and the dependence we all have on its performance. A special thanks to Carol Ruholl and Nancy Root with the Golden Age Organization for presenting information regarding the Golden Age Programs. Thanks to all of the members in attendance, your support is uplifting.

WOW, Tropical Storm Cindy was a wakeup call for me to get prepared for Hurricane season. It is more important than ever for me to be prepared as my parents are at the beautiful ages of 91 and 81. My responsibility to make sure I am ready so that I may care for all of their needs is paramount to their sense of security. Our next general membership meeting will be all that and more.

The general membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Jefferson Playground, Golden Age Center. The doors will open at 6:30 pm and we will start promptly at 7:00 pm. Our guest speaker will be provided by Jefferson Parish Department of Emergency Management (JPEOC). They will present the updated information concerning Hurricane Preparedness in Jefferson Parish. Our second speaker is Bo Rodriguez owner of Bridge City Power Equipment. His presentation topic is generator safety. “When in doubt safety counts.” All the information provided will be crucial for your hurricane preparedness. This meeting will also have some great door prizes. Do not forget to get your ticket at the door for the raffle. We thank anyone in advance for donating a dessert for the community table and we will most graciously accept all.

Also please mark your calendars for our September general membership meeting. The date is September 12, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Jefferson Playground, Golden Age Center. We are working hard to put together a presentation on the newest information for self-defense. As the crime rate is souring around us we need to make sure we are educated in all aspects of defense.

Please continue to pray for our neighbor Rep. Steve Scalise and his family.

We wish you all a Lazy Labor Day Holiday.
