PRESIDENT’S NOVEMBER REPORT

Suburban Terrace Civic Association November 2023 President’s Report

Hello neighbors!  Well, a little bit of fall is in the air!  Before you know it, we will be celebrating the holidays.  This year has flown by and your Suburban Terrace Civic Association has been busy!

September 2023 Meeting Recap

We held our political forum at our September meeting.  We had excellent participation from our candidates who were seeking election.  Each candidate had an allotted amount of time to present their platform.  There was a question-and-answer period after the candidates for each office spoke.  There were lively discussions, and we hope that the information given by the candidates allowed our members to make more informed decisions at the polls.  We thank all who participated.  We look forward to working with all our elected officials.

Neighborhood News

Our Night Out Against Crime, held on Tuesday, October 17, was a huge success.  We had 80 neighbors who visited our event and enjoyed hot dogs, nachos, snowballs, music, and drinks with friends old and new! Members of our Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office visited throughout the night.  Our ever-supportive Jefferson Parish Councilman, Deano Bonano, made our event his last stop of the night.  He saved the best for last!

Suzanne Falgout has been working with several different agencies to have the sidewalks on Jefferson Hwy. repaired or replaced.  Suzanne has no updates currently.  She was informed that the people she has been working with are now targeting their efforts on solving the problem of increased chloride levels in our water due to the saltwater wedge that is traveling up the river.  Most important things first!  Suzanne will be back to work on this as soon as her contacts are available.

The drought has been tough on all our gardens.  The plantings on Jefferson Parish property are no exception.  Chappie Eppling, head of our STCA Beautification Committee, has been in touch with Bryan Parks from Jefferson Parish.  They are aware of the loss of some trees due to the drought.  They will be replacing any of those that were lost, but they will be waiting until they can get more moisture in the soil.  There are several projects planned, but they will hold off until we get some relief from this drought.  Suffice it to say that we are always looking for ways to add trees and greenery to our neighborhood!

Proposed 2024 STCA Membership Dues Increase

Our Membership Dues have remained the same since the early 1990s.

We will be proposing an increase in Membership Dues for 2024.

New proposed membership pricing:

Individual Membership: $15.00/year

Household Membership: $30.00/year

We will be taking a vote on the increase from members at the November meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Upcoming Events

Please put our next meeting on your calendar, January 9, 2024.

Your Suburban Terrace Civic Association would not be in existence without a team effort by our STCA Advisory Board Members. We live and work in this neighborhood right alongside all of you. Let us know where we can help. We do what we do on a volunteer basis to help preserve our neighborhood and make sure that it is a place we are proud to call home.

Hope to see you at the meeting!

Judy Wolf

STCA Advisory Board Member
