Hello neighbors! Hopefully the worst of the heat is behind us, and we can look forward to a drop in the temperature, no matter how slight! I know we are all grateful that to this point we have been spared hurricanes and tropical storms. Three more months to go!
July 2023 Meeting Recap
Our guest speaker for this meeting was Mr. Patrick Hamby, Regional Customer Service Manager, Entergy Louisiana.
Mr. Hamby was most informative and was able to answer many of our questions.
He informed us that the wooden light poles are owned and maintained by Entergy and the metal light poles are owned and maintained by Jefferson Parish.
He is aware of the number of streetlights that are out in our neighborhood and throughout Jefferson Parish. The combination of supply chain issues (the inability to get the supplies and equipment needed to make repairs) as well as not being fully staffed has cause delays changing lights as well as repairing and replacing lights and poles. Hopefully these issues will be resolved soon.
Mr. Hamby also informed us that the Entergy Outage Map is being updated. If we are experiencing an outage, it should be reported to Entergy. You can call to report it at 1-800-9OUTAGE, or it can be reported on their website at this location: https://www.myentergy.com/s/reportoutage
Mr. Hamby also urged us to have trees trimmed around our homes and turn off all electricity to your house before evacuating if a storm is approaching. These steps can help protect your home and your belongings.
Our Jefferson Parish Councilman, Mr. Deano Bonano, informed us that the fire house on Jefferson Highway and Arnoult Road was damaged beyond repair during Hurricane Ida. It will be demolished and rebuilt. He is checking on a date for the beginning of that project.
Councilman Bonano also informed us that within the next 6 months, every police car in Jefferson Parish will be equipped with a radar gun used to detect speeding vehicles.
Neighborhood News
Suzanne Falgout, STCA Advisory Board Member, continues to work on improvements to sidewalks on Jefferson Highway. She is continuing to work through the red tape and will give us an update as soon as she receives additional information.
Brother’s Food Mart at 4520 Jefferson Hwy. is now closed and boarded up. It was originally padlocked as it was unable to be boarded up due to Parish regulations. Once the glass was broken Councilman Bonano acted quickly to have the parish replace the broken glass with wooden boards. Electricity had been turned off at Brothers. In addition, the streetlight on that corner of Jefferson Hwy. was out. The corner became very dark. This became even more of a safety issue. Councilman Bonano and Patrick Hamby with Entergy worked quickly to have the streetlight that illuminates that corner repaired. Many thanks go out to the STCA Advisory Board, Councilman Bonano and Mr. Patrick Hamby who resolved this situation quickly. The store is scheduled to reopen in two months with new owners. No word yet as to the name of the new store.
Thanks go out again to Mr. Patrick Hamby with Entergy for new lights installed on the light posts on River Road between Central Ave. and Jefferson Heights. This was brought to the attention of the STCA Board several months ago. Many thanks again to Mr. Hamby for making this happen.
