JULY PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Suburban Terrace Civic Association July 2023 President’s Report

The dog days of summer are here! Please remember to stay hydrated.  Drink frequently.  Don’t wait until you get thirsty.  The same advice holds true for our furry friends.  Keep fresh water out and remember the pavement can get very hot!  Keep those little paws safe.

Also, remember to check the back seat before exiting your car.  Heat builds up quickly in a closed car.  This can be fatal for children and animals.  Please stay safe!

May 2023 Meeting Recap

We had a jam-packed meeting in May.

Our first guest speaker was Jon Gegenheimer – Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court.

Mr. Gegenheimer spoke about the JeffWatch Property Alert System.

JeffWatch is a free online subscription service provided by the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court. It monitors names recorded in the Mortgage and Conveyance offices to notify you of possible fraudulent recording activity.

Property and identity fraud are becoming nationwide problems.  Scammers who file fake deeds can appear to own property and can fraudulently sell, mortgage, rent, or otherwise affect the property without the knowledge of the true owner.

By signing up for the FREE Clerk’s property alerts, you will receive an email alert within 24 hours of a document’s verified recordation in Jefferson Parish

You can sign up by visiting the website below:

Our second guest speaker was Jefferson Parish Director of Drainage, Ben Lepine.

Mr. Lepine gave us an update on the drainage projects taking place in our neighborhood as well as other parts of Jefferson Parish.

Neighborhood News

Suzanne Falgout, STCA Advisory Board Member, continues to work on improvements to sidewalks on Jefferson Highway.  Meetings have taken place between Jefferson Parish Engineering and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) to discuss the Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA).  This agreement is needed because parts of the sidewalks are the responsibility of the State, and others are the responsibility of the Parish.  Once this agreement is in place, it will provide long-term benefits.  It will allow Jefferson Parish to begin improvements to all sidewalks within the Parish.  We have a very “walkable” neighborhood, and we’d like to make it safe for everyone.  It is a maze of red tape and Suzanne will continue to give us updates as she makes progress.  Thanks Suzanne!

We have installed solar lights illuminating the “Welcome to Old Jefferson” sign on Jefferson Park Avenue and Jefferson Highway.  Our trees are still young at this location.  As the trees mature, we will consider placing lights on them just as we have on Dodge Avenue.  Thanks to Chappie Eppling, STCA Chairman of the Beautification Committee, Bryan Parks, Director of Parkways, Jefferson Parish, and our Jefferson Parish Councilman Deano Bonano.

Chappie is also working on a project to plant more trees on Jefferson Hwy.  We have a few areas in mind.  Initially, between the sidewalk and Jefferson Highway in two areas.  In front of the fencing near Riverdale Drive which is in front of the school and the area in front of the Jefferson Parish Waterworks Building between the fencing and the highway which is across the highway from Metairie Bank. Adding trees to our neighborhood provides many benefits. Reforestation, such as planting trees, is important in urban areas like ours.  It increases shaded areas, improves air quality, and protects urban landscapes from the heat.  It also helps to transform the overall aesthetics of our neighborhood.

Charles Jarreau, Vice-President, STCA, has been working on updating our Suburban Terrace Civic Association website.  Please visit the website.  Let us know if there is any additional information you would like included.  Thanks, Charles, for all your hard work.   https://suburbanterrace.org/

Your Suburban Terrace Civic Association would not be in existence without a team effort by our STCA Advisory Board Members. We do what we do on a volunteer basis to help preserve our neighborhood and make sure that it is a place we are proud to call home.
