President’s Report September 2019

September 2019

We are patiently waiting for a breathe of fresh cool air when the first cold front arrives bringing fall with it. Working outdoors this week in the 105 heat index weather, fall can not come soon enough; so I must admit I am losing my patiences. Our little ones are back to school and everyone is settling back into a consistent work pattern. We hope you all enjoyed many wonderful vacation days this summer. We have plenty of family fun holidays in our future starting with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and to wrap up this year with the start of the New Year. Please be mindful and always have a designated driver, maintain following the speed limit, and when we over indulge we normally make fools out of ourselves.

Neighborhood News

On October 12, 2019 we will have some decisions to make which will affect our neighborhood and Jefferson Parish for years to come. Campaign signs are popping up on our neighbor’s lawns and at businesses. We will elect our new Councilman for our area ( District 2), Councilman at Large, Parish President, House of Representative, Senate, and more. We all need to become familiar with our candidates and their perspectives for the future. JPSO has been giving us encouraging news about our low crime rate in Old Jefferson. Please keep up the great work we do by reporting any suspicious activities and/or suspicious persons.

July 2019 Recap

Our guest speakers for the July 9, 2019 meeting were for the Councilman District Seat 2.  We would like to thank Deano Bonano, Micheal O’Brien, and Sebastian Rey. Each candidate had 10 uninterrupted minutes to speak about their history, qualifications, and their platform for their candidacy. After each candidate spoke we opened the floor for our members to ask questions. Thanks to our many members for their insightful questions.

We thank Charles Henry for speaking about his House of Representative Seat 82 candidacy.

We had a surprise visit from Sheriff Lopinto and we always appreciate his time speaking with our members. Thanks to our Jefferson Parish Police Officers for always speaking at our meetings to give us and explain the crime Stats for our area and answer our questions.

The qualifying for the elections took place in August and there are other candidates that qualified at that time and we have them included for our September meeting.

September Meeting 2019

Our guest speakers for the September 10, 2019 meeting are the Candidates for Parish President: Lee Bonnecarrere, Cynthia Lee Shang, and John Young, the candidates for Sheriff: Anthony Bloise, John Fortunato, and Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, Councilman-at-large Division B: Paul Johnston and Scott Walker, Councilman District 2: Melinda Doucet, State Senator 9th District: J. Cameron Henry and Jon Frankie Hyers, State Representative 82nd District: Charles A Henry and Trey Mustian, Associate Justice Supreme Court, 1st District: Richard Ducote, Hans Liljeberg, and Scott Schlegel. Each candidate will have 5 uninterrupted minutes to speak about their history, qualifications, and their platform for their candidacy. After all candidates have been given their time to speak we will open the floor for our members to ask questions. Please give some thoughts in advance for the questions you would like to ask our candidates. This is a very important meeting to attend because this is our last chance to meet the candidates face to face before Election Day. We have been extremely fortunate for so many candidates to accept our invitation to our forum and STCA wants to make it worth their time and effort with a huge attendance. We thank you in advance for all of your support.

Our September 10, 2019 meeting will take place at Jefferson Playground Golden Age Center (4100 South Drive). The doors will open at 6:30 pm and the meeting will start promptly at 7:00 pm. We appreciate any and all desserts provided by members and thank you in advance for your contributions.

Upcoming Events

Mark your calendars for Oct 15, 2019 NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME PARTY. We will have a band for entertainment, face painting for the kiddos, hot dogs, chile, nachos and cheese, snowball machine, popcorn machine, JPSO  and my favorite is all the neighbors gathering together to take a bite out of crime.

For our November 12 meeting we are doing our best to secure Jefferson Parish fire department specialists to educate us on fire safety.

Looking forward to seeing you all on September 10 for our candidates forum.
