STCA General Membership Meeting January 9, 2018

Meeting called to order by the President Lisa Loup at 7pm

We recited the Pledge of Allegiance and observed a Moment of Silence

Jefferson Parish Constable Election March 24th

Candidates running for Constable both spoke for a few minutes,

Update from JPSO

JPSO Deputy Stacey Taranto-Communications for the Sheriff’s Office

Our association spans the 1st & 4th districts- Central Ave West is the 4th District and Central Ave East is the 1st District

New statistics show that crime is down 10% in 20017 vs. 2016

Recent Calls from our area include-Alarms-Traffic-Burglary-Suspicious Persons-Theft-Disturbing the Peace-Criminal Damage

Some residents asked about panhandling on the corners- Sheriff Lopinto informed us that is a protected right and they cannot be arrested. He also provided insight that the homeless population are not committing crimes, particularly not where they live and spend their time, most crimes are drug related incidents.

Transportation and Construction Updates

Central Ave to get new water lines, gas and drainage lines it is closed 1/9-1/11

Some residents complained about railroad noise- unfortunately, the railroad is not cooperative on these kind of complaints. It was suggested to read the levels of noise in decibels (using a smartphone app) to see if they are violating any local noise ordinances

 

Jefferson Highway from Causeway to Clearview beautification is approved and funded 50K

Bayou Tree is in charge of planting before spring

Sidewalks are to be addressed in the future

Community Development to Businesses Grants are available

CDBG-income level-Causeway West too high???

Included are Fat City & Old Jefferson

 

Piccadilly on Jefferson Highway is closed will be a Racetrack gas station

 

La State Plan has 6 proposed projects for 6 parishes

Traffic concerns on Jefferson Highway- specifically Earhart at Lowe’s  and the Deckbar Entrance

 

Someone asked about the premium black and white street signs- they are available for an additional cost- Lisa will check on
